I had to do a lot of reading through this forum to actually find what I was looking for, and there didnt really seem to be the information I wanted in any one place - hopefully this will help.
If you are like me, you want your TB email to be sent looking like Outlook. This is fine with messages you compose, but what about replies and forwards? The standard reply header isnt right, and although the forward header is closer, it still isnt right either.
Follow these steps and you will be right as rain.
Note - this works for TB 1.5.0.4 and I was trying to get the the look of Outlook 2003.
1. go to http://www.supportware.net/mozilla/#ext7 and install the TB extension "Thunderbird Reset Quote Header".
2. create a text file called HTML_Header.txt, and copy the following into it;
- Code: Select all
<hr tabindex=-1><font face=Tahoma size=2><!--@A@--><b>From:</b> @A@<!--@A@--> <!--@D@--><b>Sent:</b> @D@<!--@D@--> <!--@R@--><b>To:</b> @R@<!--@R@--> <!--@C@--><b>CC:</b> @C@<!--@C@--> <!--@S@--><b>Subject:</b> @S@<!--@S@--><br></font>
3. Create another text file called TEXT_Header.txt and copy the following code into it. - Code: Select all
----- Original Message ----- <!--@A@-->From: @A@<!--@A@--> <!--@D@-->Sent: @D@<!--@D@--> <!--@R@-->To: @R@<!--@R@--> <!--@C@-->CC: @C@<!--@C@--> <!--@S@-->Subject: @S@<!--@S@--> <!--@S@--><!--@S@-->
4. Go to your extensions window in TB and select the extension you just installed, and click options.
5. Point your HTML header to the file you just created. Point the text header to the other file you just created.
I have tested this with the HTML emails - works like a charm. However, I have not been able to properly test the text header.
In outlook there is a feature that lets you reply to plain text emails in plain text. Does anyone know if there is a similar feature in TB, I just cant get that to work.
I hope that is helpful, and please help re the plain text replies.

In order to bring up a compose window ( or reply window ) in the 'other' format, simply hold down the shift key when clicking 'write' or 'reply'.

I guess I am missing something, but I cannot install this extension via the Tools > Extensions options of 1.5.0.7. This is a shame as I would really like to get my mail looking a bit more like OE.
Anyone out there able to help?
Thanks.

I have tried installing Thunderbird Reset Quote Header, but it doesn't work.
The message header doesn't change from the basic one, although having set first the headers given by acoghlan, than the basic ones.
I am using TD version 1.5.0.7 (20060909).
Changequote-en works fine, but I wish to have a more flexible and customizable header.
Thanks for any help.

I was messing around with this last night and couldn't get it to work properly, but using what acoghlan posted - it now works properly. This post should be a sticky!!
nostra16, I'm the same version of TB you are - maybe I can help?

Ok, I fixed my problem.
In the (by the way excellent) version of acoghlan, you have to use the EXACT file names.
I don't know why, but when I changed the file names the extension suddenly worked.
So, if you have the same problem, double check the *.txt file names!
Have fun!

The Tb Reset Quote Header program mentioned earlier is out of date. I want to see a reply header that looks like the one you get when you forward a message. The code changes I have read do not do that. I Is there a solution for Tb 2.xxx?
And by the way, why is it every time I type an apostrophe to contract a word, it dumps me out of this post I am composing and puts me into a word search?

Since the author of this extension has posted in this topic, don't you think it's better just to go to the link he gave? http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/changequote-en.html
