New preferences window on trunk -- testers needed!

I've just landed the preference window reorganization slated for Firefox 3.0 on trunk. I've done some testing on it to make sure that the correct preferences are flipped when things change, etc., but I certainly haven't done as much testing as I'd like it to have or as much as it will need. Areas where I'm particularly looking for help testing include:
* setting, resetting, and changing the home page from each of the options to each of the other options * choosing different default download locations * changing the default font and size * number of days of history to store * changing the phishing provider, etc. * master password setting, resetting, changing, etc. * security warnings functionality Some additional notes: * please test instant-apply vs. non-instant-apply of preferences -- I developed this in Linux, so I'm extremely interested in how it fares on a platform without instant-apply preferences * the feed reader options DO NOT WORK -- this is already a known problem * if you get any prefwindow-related spew to stderr/stdout or to the JS console, I'd like to know about it Builds which should include the new preference window: * Windows (updated!) * Linux (updated!) * Mac (updated!) Please post any issues you find in this thread. I'll be watching this closer than people watched the Superbowl halftime show in 2004, so everything posted here will receive some sort of response. (This also will help with avoiding duplicates.) Thanks for any and all testing people can do! Last edited by Waldo on July 5th, 2006, 8:31 pm, edited 3 times in total.

I see this in Error console:
Error: this._buttons has no properties Source file: chrome://global/content/bindings/dialog.xml Line: 81 and this one: Error: preference has no properties Source file: chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml Line: 1133 First one comes from using Advanced/update/Show History 2nd one comes from using Security/Passwords/Exceptions Minor nit: Content/File Types - Manage Button is cut-off slightly at the bottom. Could be a theme issue, will check with default in a few. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060705 Minefield/3.0a1,Firefox ID:2006070516 [cairo] UPDATE: Neither of the errors show in a virgin profile and the default error console. I use the Console2 extension. The Manage button is also cut off in the default theme/virgin profile.

Further note, if you using the TabMix Plus Dev version the 'Tab' button in the Options Panel is totally blank.
I'll let the TMP guys know.

Not seeing this one in my Linux debug build; anyone else seeing it?
I see this, and I know what the problem is. Pondering a fix...
Entirely possible...I remember encountering something like that during one iteration of the patch, so it's possible I only fixed that on Linux or something.

What platform are you running? I have a report of this on BeOS, and to be honest, I'm not sure how it's happening. Do you get any error messages if you enable the javascript.options.showInConsole preference? That might be why nothing's showing up -- I've used a user.js file so long I've forgotten about most of the preferences I have set in it.

@Waldo,
I see the same as Pal-moz on the Security Warning 'settings', it does nothing. Enabling the showinConsole still kicks up nothing when clicking the Settings button I'm on WinXP SP2

Dangit dangit dangit...somehow I'm seeing it too now. I could have sworn it was working when I added it, too. Checking further...

BTW--what does "Select new tabs opened from links" mean?
If it's opaque to me, an experienced user, what is a new user to make of it? Firefox: Good things come to those who wait.

Hmm, did I link incorrectly to a build? These should use "When a link opens a new window, open it in" (which I think better communicates the meaning behind the preference), with new window/tab as the options. By the way, it's not over yet -- apparently there's some fugliness in bug 340740 that I have to clean up. I'll post when I have a build with those changes done...

The fix for the security warnings button has cycled on two of the three platforms, so I've updated their links, just so people know.
