Just a bit of information from the Firefox 3.0 Status meetings:

Disabling Places on trunk, due to redesign
* Need to tell people to export their bookmarks before the turn-off happens

The devs have yet to say when this will happen but I thought I'd post it here in case anyone was interested.

Reflow branch landing after trunk alpha

I was guessing that would be after alpha 1.

Will make new theme landing easier with places off

Well that's the good part. I was wondering if landing the theme was going to wait for quite a while until Places was closer to being finalized because there isn't a theme for Places.

You mean those 2 or 3 icons used by places and not by bookmarks ?
We still have about a year to go ;-)

(I quietly hope we won't see a repeat of the endless whining on branch about the theme)

@Peter: Thanks Peter, wonder how long places will be out for...

@Polidobj: I be porting the theme will be a pain... there are new UI stuff in the trunk and places too - it will probably take a little while to get it working right. I'm personally looking forward to seeing the reflow land, that looks pretty promising.

Cheers,

Me too. I haven't followed the branch much because of that. I have only tried the branch a couple of times since the theme landed. The second time it seemed fine.

The whining wasn't endless. In fact, there are only a few and less important complaints left. The final theme is much better than it was in the beginning. I guess that's partly because of the whining (you could call it feedback, too).

The theme looked good in the mock up. But what was delivered was crap. Most of the feedback should not have been needed. The theme should have been worked on quite a bit more before landing. Most of the problems looked like they were easily evident if they had tested it in more than just the default XP theme. And it should have been done quite a bit sooner too. It should have been well developed and ready to land for alpha 2.

Today's build has looked good in terms of memory usage. I stayed under 100Mbs today at work. 8-)

Youuu You open the places sidebar. Go to organize and then File->Export. That's the only export function I found for the time being.
