html icons gone

Post by misterdan »

I am using FF2.0 RC2 and Windows XP Pro

For some reason the icons from .html and .htm files are now the command line icons (blank window app).

How do I restore the icon normality?

Thanks,
Dan

If I go into control panel --> folder options --> file types --> scroll down to htm and/or html and click advanced it shows the correct icon. In the file types (and on windows) it does not. If I click to change icon and set the icon (I've set it to what it should be, the blank html page with the firefox icon) click ok, and then ok out of the folder options nothing happens.

Any reason? any suggestions?

Try to set FF back as default browser. IE7 is not very nice to other browsers.

Set it again. IE7 destroys sometimes the setting.

I set IE to be default browser. Then I set firefox to be default browser. The IE icons came back. Now that desktop has refreshed, the icons are gone. (although they still open in FF).

everything else is still the same

I guess that is one of the IE7 behaviours. Catchs everything it can.
What tells the properties of the shortcut?

I mean the HTML icons on your desktop or any HTML file. Right click -> Properties -> "Opens With".

I guess IE7 has screwed up again. If no one else has an idea you have to live with it.

Edit: Can you find this key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML" in regedit and check the DefaultICON?

Try to repair the icon cache with TweakUI:
