How can I set it so when downloads are finished, they stay in the download window until I exit? Why do they disappear automatically? I dont like this feature, I like it better on v1

How can I set it back? I am using RC3

Thanks

Wow, they've removed the public facing preference option. You'll need to poke around in about:config to fix this. Just enter about:config in the address bar, hit enter. Then, find the following pref:
browser.download.manager.retention

The options for this preference are:
0: Upon successful download
1: When the browser exits
2 (default): Manually

I have mine set as 2. Then, in Tools -> Options -> Privacy, under the Clear Private Data section, I have set the Download History to be removed when I exit the browser. It would be the same as using 1 above. It sounds like yours is set as 0.

Conjecture on reasoning: I know there were performance problems with long downloaded lists. So, the option was turned off and moved to about:config. This way, the performance problems would go away, and would not have to be fixed (because settings changed via about:config are not officially supported).

The option has been moved to "Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Remember what I've downloaded", which is now a simple checkbox that toggles between 0 and 2.

Very true. Very very true.

Too bad they dealt with the problem rather than fixed the problem.

I think the problem is caused by some more fundamental performance issues with RDF datasources, templates and such. So there would be no point in fixing it now as in Gecko 1.9 they are getting dropped in favor of mozStorage. That's just my guess, though.

And that would be a true fix: changing the method. If so, then the work-around is OK - if it is indeed temporary.
