Thunderbird Beta 1 **RC2** Builds Now Available

Post by mscott »

At long last, we have beta 1 candidate builds. If you have time, it would be great to help test these builds before the upcoming beta next week!

Candidate builds can be found here:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... dates/rc2/

Beta 1 will be offered in en-US only. It will have support via automatic software update to beta 2.

<b>Major Feature Areas</b>
*Message Tags
*Folder Views
*Visual Identity Improvements (theme improvements for Windows and Linux)
*New Mail Notification Alert Improvements
*Session History Navigation (back / forwards)
*Find As You Type in the message pane
*Automatic detection of online state (Thunderbird can automatically move you to offline mode when you lose net connectivity)

<b>Additional Areas</b>
*New Windows installer based on Nullsoft Scriptable Install System
*Updates to the extension system
*New combined and improved Add-ons manager for extensions and themes
*Preference dialog redesign
*Remote image policy changes
*Support for editing tags
*Ability to customize the fields we show in the new mail alert notification
*Recent folder menus for Copying and Moving messages.
*Two pane view using a folder location picker toolbar widget.
*Universal Binaries for Mac OS X builds.

<b>Extension Platform Improvements</b>
*Extensions can now add custom columns to the thread pane and store custom fields in the mail database.

I just tried to add a new tag and it did not work.
Tried with both a fresh profile and a previous 1.5.x profile

side note when more then one tag is selected and the col is shown in the message pane could you wrap seperate tags
ex

Looks like a last minute change didn't make it in and broke the ability to add tags :(

You can edit them though.

Zoinks.

If you have folders and filters associated with them and opt to delete the folder a warning pops up telling you that the filter will be updated. However, if you go and actually /look/ at the filer afterwards the filter hasn't been changed at all; it points at the (now missing) directory and is still enabled.

Any news on progress with Realtime Black Lists? This is the one feature that would make the most difference to my online experience!

Thanks,

I started using 2b1rc1 and I had a question about the popups. In 1.5.x they had a link that you could click to bring up TB. I don't see it in 2 and I can't figure out how to make that link available again. Is there a reason it was removed? Is there a way to get it back?

We haven't implemented the ability to click on the alert to bring up thunderbird again. It should get fixed before beta 2 though.

FYI, release candidate 2 (RC2) is now available if folks could start using these new builds:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... dates/rc2/

This picks up the fix that broke Adding Tags.

Thanks!

There seems to be something missing in the thread tree.
Shouldn't there be a small graphic for read messages as well as un-read messages?

Scott, I'm seeing serious problems with tags (especially the 5 default tags) in IMAP:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346394

The original bug actually seems to be resolved, but see comments 3-5. Thanks.
