So... Does anyone care about Minimo now?

DougT (in cahoots with the Mozilla Foundation) have, in their infinite wisdom, thrown in the towel due to reasons I don't really follow (mainly because the reasons seem pretty bogus to me).
This leaves the future of Minimo in a pretty dire state, and looking more unlikely than ever that it will evolve into a stable and usable product. Are there any hackers planning on picking up the batton and taking Minimo where DougT clearly could not?

Ya I don't get it as well.. Something about the market being crowded? No more so than the PC platform.
You have IE, Opera and a smattering of service based browsers.. That is it. Minimo could have offered something in between IE and Opera, I don't get why they quite, but then again I don't get the direction they where heeding in ether. Minimo started by stripping down the browser to fit on a mobile devices.. It seems like as soon as they got that far, they didn't bother to try and fix the performance, instead they started adding GPS features and menu bars?

Just you and me then, BagOBones!
I wonder why people continue to post about problems they are having running Minimo on device XYZ when all further development is on hold? Surely it would make more sense to petention Mozilla Foundation to reverse their decision and continue development than worry why you can't install a dead product that isn't going to see any more development? There are a whole bunch of devices now becoming available that are more than capable of running Minimo - highly sophisticated open platform phones, not to mention the Nokia Internet Tablet devices. It really does look as though the Mozilla Foundation lost faith in this project, in part due to it's glacial development under the guidance of DougT. Perhaps more competent developers could re-energise the project? Or maybe WebKit is the future, and Mozilla Foundation can focus on the desktop. I'm not going to put my faith into the next Mozilla Foundation Mobile platform and wait 3-4 years for a barely functioning v0.16 product only for it to be killed off. Again.

The reason people keep posting questions/requests is because there is no notice on the Minimo site that development has ceased so folks don't know any better. That and there is no sticky in this forum either informing people of Minimo's status as on hold.
A petition to Mozilla wont do anything as clearly they made a decision even if you you don't understand or agree with the reasons & there just isn't the interest from anyone it seems who wants to take over from DougT. Finally I'm not pleased with this either but insulting Mozilla/DougT really doesn't help & you should re-read DougT's blog post as they have not abandoned this area completely.

The lack of a notice, the lack of any real public in-your-face communication (ie. a Mozillazine new item) regarding the end of Minimo just about sums up the entire Minimo project. This project has suffered from a total lack of focus, belief and developer involvement - it really comes as no surprise that the plug has been pulled. The project seems to have been run on a shoestring (despite the investment from Nokia), with one lone developer no doubt doing his best whenever he could seemingly spare the time. All this time wasted, so little progress and now it's brushed under the rug. I suppose I'm being harsh on DougT but I have to wonder why he had so little help from the development community - was this intentional?
