Anyone else seeing a weird rectangle appearing periodically next to the cursor? It might be the actual cursor changing, I'm not sure.

Yes, I'm seeing this in Trunk only.
Happens when you mouseover a folder name that is hidden under the scroll bar, which is probably
the actual problem? Folder names are cropped when they exceed folder pane width in branch builds.

Thunderbird and Spotlight

Post by nuskcalb »

David Bienvenu is working in Spotlight integration with Thunderbird for Mac. This is: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290057

In one of the last comments he describes the way to make it work (see below).

You have to associate .mozeml files with thunderbird but I don't know where to find this kind of files :(

Anyone?

Thanks.

"--- Comment #61 from David Bienvenu <bienvenu> 2007-01-31 16:00:04 PST ---
To get this to work, you need to install the Thunderbird mdimporter - I'm
trying to attach it to this bug, but bugzilla is not happy. I'll have to figure
out some way of doing that.

The other thing you currently need to do by hand is associate .mozeml files
with the Thunderbird app. You can do this by finding a .mozeml file and double
clicking on it - when it asks you what app to use, you find Thunderbird, and
say to always use this app for files of this type.

And finally, you need to add the boolean pref "mail.spotlight.enable" using the
config editor, set it to true, and restart TB.

TB will then index new messages in the foreground, and index existing messages
in the background, in the best approximation of idle time it can find. It will
also index messages as you read them, if they're not indexed before.

Tomorrow's build should be worth trying.

Which scroll bar are you talking about? None of my folder names are wider than the pane width, so there's no truncating for me.

Something else that seems odd: when I mouse over a saved search folder in that pane, a tooltip appears with a list of messages in it. But the messages aren't related to the saved search. In fact, I can't figure out how it's determining which messages to display. But each saved search lists the same messages.

You could open TextEdit (or go to the Terminal and use your favorite editor) and create a new file with a .mozeml extension. Then use that file to associate with Thunderbird.

Yup, that's what I've done, but what's the reson behind that if there is no such files in my Mac? :P

I haven't used it yet, but I'm assuming it works like Mail.app with the .emlx files. So, Thunderbird will actually create those files. But until the patch is installed, it can't do that.

From what I can gather, this is an experimental feature in the trunk. I assume it's intention is to
popup recently dowloaded messages (maybe this session only) The little orange icon is the clue.
See this : http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1627 ... eadps3.gif

I think it is still a "work in progress"

Thanks, JoeS. That makes sense based on what I'm seeing.

Can someone confirm this bug for me:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368257

My account is here:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 23#2728223

I don't have a Bugzilla account, so I ask that some one please pass this on for me. Thanks.

I'm seeing this also, in my case it happens randomly. I can't see any regularity when or why it happens. In the screenshot:
http://www.rrr.de/~toscha/subject-with-body.PNG
you can see that it happens once with a mail from a certain sender but not with the next one, which apparently has the same subject; both being html-formatted mails. But I can see this also with PlainText mails...

Body text in the subject is bug 364090 (the feature is not ready yet...).

I see the tiny rectangle tooltip on branch too, bug 369160 was filed for that.
