...what exactly is wrong with the image you posted? Yet from what you said, I've got a feeling you're talking about bug 368116 (which by the way has been talked about quite a bit over the last few weeks in these threads...)

Peter, can you please add it to the red list?

sorry for delay, i was in town...
as for trying it in safe-mode, i would, but the last several times i've tried it, it hasn't worked... (ff won't start in safe-mode i mean).

as for whats wrong with the picture, (i blacked out a person's name), all the dark gray parts are supposed to be rendered images connecting with the profile image. some times images aren't rendered would be a description.

i've gotten this for over a year with trunk. and on windows too. its either a trunk bug (i suspected something with the implementation of cairo, just a guess tho), or an extension. but last time i tried to narrow it down to an extension i couldn't find a culprit.

@ryanvm
i checked out that bug and i don't think thats it. (i could be wrong tho). it has seemed to me and still seems to me to be an image rendering problem.

UPDATE: i was finally able to get ff to start in safe-mode, i didn't do anything different, so i don't know why it worked this time. i didn't see the above mentioned problem all the time, it kinda seemed random.
so then in safe-mode i went to the site (a forum) that i see it on the most, which led me to believe it was an extension problem/conflict, but then i noticed a different but similar problem! it seems that the spacing is not correct now (in safe-mode mind you):

Image
(i didn't edit this pic. i only scaled it to 200% its original resolution).
