I cannot find anywhere an explanation of the removal in Thunderbird2 of the command line option "-offline" which allowed Thunderbird to be started in offline state - quite useful in testing scenarios in my experience. Probably another case of a change made by the developers without telling the users - cos why would they need to know?

In looking for alternatives I tried the option to start the profile manager and check the "Work offline" box. As far I can tell checking the box or not has absolutely no effect. Does anyone else find it having any use?

The preference offline.startup_state takes precedence, and the default is 2 (online). Set it to 4. There seems to be no user interface for this setting.
