Anyone notice the update server being very slow today ?
I'm not used to 37kb speeds on my cable modem.
I did have a few ISP problems yesterday, but today seems fine generally.

Startup on trunk seems a little slow, but I haven't cleaned inbox, and trash for a while.
There is definitely a core performance problem with scripts and other animations.
My guess there is reflow.

Problem with tabs:
It seems a tab displays a blank page unless, in the 3 pane view, the preview pane is visible.
I usually keep it dragged down out of site, since I am usually viewing full page grahics posts.
Some other quirks if you don't use the preview pane, and you call a helper app, say winamp,
the next newsgroup post you view will be a blank page. Also sometimes "view source" is blank.
Everything seem OK if the preview pane is visible, even a little.

regarding tabs, i don't see the advantage of changing the 3pane view via tab or via clicking on a folder (for folder tabs). if one had large numbers of folders, well Favorites can organize them already. am i missing some usage advantage here?
imo, a tabbed message pane (MP) would be far more useful, as there is no way to collect/organize specific items in a thread pane (TP) list. opening a message in a tab without TP and folder pane (FP) leaves it without context, sorta lost.
so a nice ergonomic would be to have a UI with 2 tab levels, one for folders and one for messages. a message tab can be toggle expanded so the view would be Folder tabs, with one selected, and below that Message tabs, with the message in basically full window. toggle reshows FP and TP.
i mentioned this in the rfe bug, no idea if there's interest or if i'm way off here.

My interest in tabs is not from the perspective of organizing information, but comparing results.
HTML composition (mini-web pages or stationery if you wish to call it that) is often a process of refining, and saving the composition repeatedly. With tabs I can view inermediate results in tabs while working on refinements.
I can also view the source of saved compositions to recall just what attributes were used.
For this kind of work (play actually for me) tabs will be quite useful.
From the work-flow point of view, suppose I am replying to multiple emails related to a project.
I can quickly open tabs on all the mail, and scan through them when composing a reply.
Any way you look at it this should quickly become an indispensable TB feature.

yes, but the question is why have tabbed 3pane and not tabbed message pane? without folderpane and threadpane, a tabbed message is just lost, can't relate to it. imo.
for the comparisons usage you describe, unlesss 2 things are side by side at the same time (via something like Split Browser) then you're still clicking to switch one or the other. whether you click a tab or a thread pane item, doesn't seem to be a big difference. couldn't you see composition changes by clicking each saved item in a Drafts folder? not arguing, just not seeing how tabs help much.

I try to create a mailing list, but it doesn't work. When I click "ok" button, nothing happens.

I didn't notice any checkin that would fix the bustage.
