Doctor's Advice Section
Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I move like this."
Doctor: "Don't move like that."

Since 2007-08-09 Switching views with View | Layout will immediately crash TB This is a known Core problem.
Take the Doctor's advice.

Since 2007-08-13 You will need to "select" an app to call a link. This is stored in mimeTypes.rdf but is not editable in the TB UI In this case you really can't take the Docor's advice, but you might want to backup your mimeTypes.rdf before you make a selection.

Joe, thanks for the thread and for warning users about the problems with changing layouts and the problem with clicking on links.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=385740 Seems to be the cause of the querry we see in
clicking on links in mail. But the bug checkin has done much more. It has expanded the use of
mimeTypes.rdf to include protocols as well as mimetypes.
Look here if you are interested: http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/m ... eTypes.rdf
It shows some new possibilities IMO

I've been testing TBird 3 for some time now by having it on my computer and using it normally. But are there any smoke-test or test-run scenarios that I should be using routinely?

I get the software update of the latest trunk. So no problems but I also note that the latest trunk can be found here
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/t ... test-trunk

How does this differ from the tinderbox builds found here

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... box-trunk/
and does it matter which is being tested?

The "so-called" hourly builds include any changes that are checked in after the "nightly"
Click on the Update watch link at the top of the thread, then click on the tb-trunk link.
There you see all the builds for the day, the one at the top is the "hourly" the one with the "D" link is the latest-trunk

Thanks Joe. I'll stick with the nightlies.

About Plugins

Probably most folks don't know that Plugin capability has been included in Trunk Tbird right along.

It is disabled by default, but can be enabled with the following pref:
pref("mailnews.message_display.allow.plugins", true);

With the Firefox checkin for # 339056 [Firefox] - provide mechanism to allow users to list, enable, disable plugins in primary UI [All]
You might have noticed the Plugins tab in the extension manager.
Here is what mine looks like:(click on the image for a larger view)

Some Plugins work and some don't, so I guess it's a "Use at your own risk " feature, since I don't see the Devs in a position to fully support plugins.
You can "prioritize" the plugins that you want to use by adding a plugins sub-folder to your Tbird build, and puting wanted plugins there.

You can also get the old NC4 about:plugins functionality by using a script, or by using the "start page" feature and setting the start page to "about:plugins"

I have added :
# 353205 [Thunderbird] - request way to set default to no alternate text for inserting images [Win]
In my recent bugs of interest section. I've seen many complaints on this behavior in many forums and Newsgroups.
Maybe to appease the "traditionlists" We could think about at least making the selection persist throughout the immediate session, then ask again in the next session.

I find that really annoying too, the code is in core editor code but maybe we can still fix it.
