I just installed the latest ff install and after restart find zero of my addons working. It's almost as if ff is looking for the extensions in the wrong folder, i don't know. When i go to update add-ons it shows that i have them, but the icons for the addons don't show and ff can't find any updates. I've searched mozillazine and found this, but it didn't work.

Crikey... My extensions have gone or are unusable.... The update has confused the extension manager.... This procedure will reset it, so Firefox rescans your collection of addons, to see what is really there. Look in your Profile Folder (see above for how to find it) and Delete these three files extensions.ini extensions.cache extensions.rdf Make sure Firefox is not running when deleting these files. Firefox will regenerate these files on restart.
Please help, I can't function without my add-ons! Dean

that seems to be too much work. there has to be an easier not so drastic way?

Just close Firefox n open the Profile Manager.
Create a new, bare profile n then transfer your 'stuff' over. Do NOT delete the old one. Easy peasy. Ancient Amateur Astronomer

Bare with me, but still having issues.
When I create a new profile, firefox.exe -ProfileManager, it can not find the new profile i had just created and instead displays just the default.

Do you still have Firefox open by chance?
It must be closed. Check that there are no instances in the Task Manager. Ancient Amateur Astronomer

for certain, firefox was closed and not operating. let me explain th missing profile further. i create a new profile, copy all the files from my original profile, use the profile manager again to select the new profile, but it's not being recognized by the profile manager.

Do you get a warning message?
Sounds like it's a locked profile... > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use Ancient Amateur Astronomer

Bookmarks are still accessible. If bookmarks were gone then I would think locked profile right?

So, what you're saying is, that Firefox is up n running in the new profile..

Thanks for your patience limpet235. I'm accessing my old profile where the bookmarks are showing but no add-ons are functioning.

each time i create a new profile it mysteriously disappears and can't be found via profile manager. when i set up a new profile, i keep the same folder location as the default profile so it's not being misplaced.

Try the solution reported here (delete or rename the current default profile and profiles.ini file which creates a new default Firefox profile, then transfer your data to the new profile):

Alice, your the Bomb!
It was a pain but this way of transferring profiles and making my addons functioning really worked.
