Suggestion: audio mute button per tab

Consider the scenario where you are already listening to your favourite music or podcast on your favourite media player. Or you are listening to audio from a web page.

You then go an visit another website in another tab. This website starts playing music without your permission. So this clashes over the music or audio you are already listening to. This is very common with myspace pages where users post their music or favourite tunes which start automatically without visitors permission.

Now, I'm NOT wanting a discussion about the merits of myspace and its users pages playing music automatically.

Instead I think Firefox should have a feature to mute audio PER TAB. With a setting to disable audio by default when opening a new tab. There could even be a optional mute button per tab to turn on or off the audio.

Does anyone know of an addon or configuration change which actually mutes the browser? All the above instructions stops media files from playing but does not actually mute the browser. The point is to have the sound/video files play but muted.
Ideally muting should work on a per-tab basis.

Firefox itself does not produce any sounds other then say the beep you get in the Findbar so there is nothing really to mute in Firefox itself. All of the sounds are done by the plugins like Flash, wmp etc.
