Running Firefox 3 RC1:
I don't know how to search this on Bugzilla, but the problem is that when I open nested bookmarks, there is a gap to the next folder level that prevents access to the desired bookmark. Sometimes if I run the cursor rapidly over the gap, I can get to the next folder, but it is hit or miss.

I am running 800x600 screen resolution on a laptop, which may have something to do with it. I would attach a screen capture, but don't see any way to do it.

Moving to Firefox Builds, where Firefox 3 is currently being discussed....

That's Bug 421657. It's far from new - been around since at least 1.0 IIRC - and at this point it's probably not going to be fixed for Fx3.

Thanks. Good thing I am trying FF3 on a non-critical PC. I will stick with FF2.

You might try experimenting with the new "Tags" in FF3. The idea is like going from a massive flat file structure (e.g., bookmarks with 3 - 5 levels of folders) to a relational data base (just how I think about it).

It would be a shame to not be able to take advantage of all the great new features of FF3 to say nothing of the vastly improved performance.

Not only is FF3 *far* better than FF2, but this isn't going to help you anyway:

Thanks for the suggestions. I certainly don't want to miss out on FF3 either, but there is definitely a difference between FF2 and FF3 in my ability to reach the deeper bookmarks. But it apparently depends on which direction the deeper folders open (left or right). On my main PC with a higher resolution screen, they may all open in the "right" direction, so maybe it won't be a problem there. But it won't work on this notebook.

You should add this to the bug report. It's exactly this sort of information that allows these issues to be fixed.

I am speculating on the main PC, but will try FF3 on it next week.

And the same problem occurs on my ThinkPad X60 at 1024x768 resolution, so changing resolution does not help. I position my Bookmarks menu toward the right of the screen, which probably affects the direction (left or right) where the sub-menus open. But I don't want to change that.

I see that gap too for folders that open to the left.
The DOMi shows a gap of about 7px if I check the position and the width of both pop-ups.
A workaround is to use the cursor right(!) key to go to that folder.

You might try adding this to userChrome.css:
Code: Select all
menupopup menupopup { margin-left: 7px !important; }
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008051206 Firefox/3.0

That userChrome.css: seems to just shift the problem up to the third-level folders that open to the right. But maybe some more experimenting along those lines will work.

I'm using following css.
Code: Select all
/* align submenus */
menupopup > menu > menupopup,
popup > menu > menupopup {
  -moz-margin-start: 0px !important;
}

This really isn't going to be fixed? Seems like a showstopper to me. Really frustrating to a non-savvy user, or anyone with mobility issues or disabilities.

I would strongly suggest this be fixed before 3.0 final.
