Mozilla 1.7 to Become New Long-Lived Stable Branch

-Release candidate shooting for tomorrow or Wed
-We need to land a few biggish changes we want to take on the 1.7 branch first
--Changes to prevent URL bar spoofing/phishing
--Find in textareas
--FTP upload
-These all landed on trunk last week
-As soon as these are in, off we go
-We've scheduled plenty of time on the branch for 1.7.

**Firefox 0.9**
-Ben has been "wasting time with web services" for the update mechanism
-He'll hopefully have something this week
-He has made a list of 1.0 targets, assigned tentative owners to them
-Now needs to persuade said owners
-"Profile components" needs to be in for 0.9 (allows install of extensions per-profile)
-Also xpinstall changes (dveditz)

Reporting and Nominating Bugs for Mozilla Firefox 1.0

Ben Goodger writes: "We're beginning the drive to Firefox 1.0 and we need to make sure that every bug people think is important is filed in Bugzilla and has a blocking0.9? or blocking1.0? request flag set. This will allow the FDT (heh) to develop an action plan for the milestones between now and 1.0, prioritize bugs and so on. If you find problems/bugs:

1. Post them in this thread
2. Properly describe the problem
3. Include the url where you have the problem (if this is the case)
4. Include the "about mozilla firefox" information (under the help button)
5. Installer build or .zip version?
6. Did you completely erase the Firefox directory first?
7. Does a new profile fix the problem?
8. Include the list of extensions you have installed (preferably none to start with)

This makes it a lot easier for others to duplicate your problem.

I haven't used the sideber RSS reader; I prefer to use an online RSS reader called Bloglines (www.bloglines.com), since I use more than one computer. It is free, so worth a checkout.

I have a workaround. I have a javascript bookmarklet that removes most advertising from a page, including anything Flash-based. Bug 241447 occurs when a Flash animation is active. So, if you are on a page where your typing is doubled, hit this javascript, and type away.

Available as 'Clear Ads' on this page: Layout Bookmarklets.

You could also use the extension FlashBlock for a more permanent removal.

It's a particular context menu item. You highlight a text in a page and right click. You can see the option search web for 'the text you selected'.
