Since I'm seeing a large amount of people posting problems and/or questions concerning Adobe Reader, I decided it would be best to make a seperate sticky post concerning Adobe Reader and Mozilla Firefox.
Many people complain of frequent freezes, crashes, and other problems involving a combination of Adobe Reader 6 and Mozilla Firefox. Adobe Reader 6 is bloated. In addition, the original 6.0 version is very buggy and unreliable. It is highly recommended that if you experience problems with Adobe Reader 6, try upgrading. If you use Windows NT 4/Windows 98 SE/Windows ME, you can obtain Adobe Reader 6.0.2 here. Once you install or upgrade to Adobe Reader 6.0.2, download the Adobe Reader 6.0.3 update here. If you use Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux, or Macintosh OS X, you can obtain Adobe Reader 7.0 here. If you use Adobe Reader 6.x on Windows, a second recommended step is to download and run Adobe Reader Speed-Up. Adobe Reader Speed-Up will remove unncessary plug-ins, speeding up the load time of Adobe Reader 6.x. If you don't want Adobe Reader to display downloaded PDFs inside Mozilla Firefox, please open Adobe Reader, and go to Edit, Preferences - Internet. Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser." For more information on Adobe Reader and Mozilla Firefox, please see the Adobe Reader FAQ on PluginDoc. Radical idea from Neil Parks: Try Acrobat Reader 4.05. Loads PDF's in a browser window or tab very quickly. Only downside seems to be that cursor keys won't work in that tab. You will have to use the mouse to scroll up and down. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/r ... chive.html The above will most likely solve any and all problems you may have with Adobe Reader and Mozilla Firefox, but if not, please feel free to post your problem in a seperate thread. Updated to add Adobe Reader 6.0.2 upgrade information.
Corrected the link to the Adobe (Acrobat) Reader Speed-Up application.
I re-worded and condensed the original post a bit, and corrected one of the links.
Editing since acroread 6.0.3 has been released...
Also, stripped Macintosh references, since Adobe Reader for MacOS X does not have a browser plugin. Updated to add Adobe Reader 7 upgrade information.
Added the tip regarding removing the display of PDF documents inside Mozilla Firefox. Thanks to dmccunney and David_Allen for that one. I also changed the Adobe Reader 7 download link from the Full version to the Basic version due to a tip from Limulus and matt me.
