I'd like to see in minotaur one of M2's features I love: Quick Reply!

Below the preview pane there's a box (area) where you can type a reply and a button to send the reply instantly...

there is an example:

I like this idea too (with a knob to turn it off, of course, when you don't have enough screen real-estate).

Hmm that is an interesting idea. Once Thunderbird is a little further along, I'll investigate this more.

You don't deal with replying to text at all in this box right? If you want to quote the message you bring up a compose window. This is just for typing a quick response without any attachments or quoted parts.

I imagine we could have a checkbox under View / Toolbars for showing/hiding the quick reply bar. And it would have a grippy on it so you could make change the height:

Thread Pane
Message Pane
Quick Reply Pane

Thanks for the suggestion.

I envisage a preference (which would currently appear under "Options -> Composition") to allow me to choose whether or not "quick reply" quotes the original message, and the preference for top or bottom quoting would be applied...

I agree with that, but no more options. If you want that you can use the regular reply method.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who wants that feature... I hope someday it would be added to thunderbird/minotaur.

Looks like it could be a nice addition, provided it's not too intrusive. Re: some above comments, it wouldn't be a quick reply if you end up messing around with quoting and such in this window. As stated, that's best left for a proper compose window.

I think that there are quite a few features in Opera that should be copied into Thunderbird (and Firebird). - and I certainly like the Quick Reply feature.

Download Opera and try out the mail client and you'll see the quick reply feature.

I personally think that everyone in these forums shoudl download and use as many different mail clients as possible. That will give people a bette understanding of what other features are out there and whether they would be usefull to implement them.

You can see a picture of it at

I posted a link to it at the first post..

Look at the button "Quick reply" (lower right) and see what's on the left of it

Hey.... that theme in the screenshot is pretty cool....
Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived a grove of oranges. These oranges lived contentedly until one day when they were harvested and used in a salad.
