0.9.1 coming

Post by bengoodger »

The 0.9 release has highlighted a few issues related to the Extension Manager, one of which was fixed for Thunderbird 0.7, but there were a few others including a top crash. As a result we will do a quickie 0.9.1 in the next few days that features fixes to the following bugs:

bug 248071
bug 246687
bug 246014
bug 245335
bug 247322
and the wacky infinite restart loop

... and some updates to Winstripe.

We'll have candidates available for testing available shortly. .

Updates:
- the visual display version number will read "0.9.1" but since the update system works poorly at present (the generic web service is not yet deployed on update.mozilla.org) the extension app version will remain 0.9.0. This should not be a problem as there are not major changes that would cause extensions to break.
- We are taking only the fixes above plus a few other critical issues. Other bugfixes that have taken place on the aviary branch-trunk ("brunk") since 0.9 was released (such as the new security indication etc) will not be included to minimize QA issues.

Ben, I posted in the Unofficial Builds forum about your patch for bug 246014 - as soon as I can get a build to test with, I'll let you know if the patch works.

<del>Theme and extension authors: You'll have to bump maxVersion to 0.9.1. 0.9+ is not enough.

EDIT: You'd better use 0.9.1+...</del>

NICE. Those bugs in particular really piss me off.

Updates to Winstripe make this release sound all the sweeter!

ARGH

What's a value to use then, that will install into both milestones, the Aviary branch builds AND the trunk builds?

minVersion = 0.8
maxVersion = 0.9.1+

works in trunk (0.8.0+), 0.9 release, aviary (0.9.0+), 0.9.1 builds, and 0.9.1+ builds.
The latter is a precaution, but I guess we'll see builds with that version soon.

I would also like to put in a vote for 246078, I'm waiting on that one before I try to switch a few people to FireFox.

Firefox 0.9.1 will be made from the FIREFOX_0_9_1_BRANCH, which is basically the FIREFOX_0_9_RELEASE plus fixes for the bugs Ben mentioned in his post. So the question is not which bugs will be fixed until the release, but rather which fixes will be ported from the aviary branch to the 0.9.1 branch.

I'd like to nominate bug 245053 (Profilemanager crashes when you try to delete a profile).
<del>Maybe bug 246769 (Help is not installed in Linux installer builds) would be useful as well.</del> (fixed)

<del>I'm curious whether the latest improvements of the download manager (bug 246618) will be included as well.</del> It's not.

By the way, the new toolbar icons are soo much better! ;-)

Yes, I most definitely second 246078, 245053, 246769, and 246618. I'd also like to see 247284 fixed. If that is impossible, then I'd like to see the Software Update options turned off by default until it is fixed.

If we are able to upgrade to 0.9.1 would this effect our already installed extensions?

Ben, we should really consider fixing bug 246078 as well for 0.9.1. Delaying the release by an extra day won't hurt, but fixing the bug that often prevents Firefox from registering itself as the default browser will allow me to recommend Firefox 0.9.1 to others in good conscience. I couldn't do this with 0.9, entirely because of bug 246078.
