Secure Connection Failed

Post by robbyx »

This message appears in Firefox after I successfully posted a message in this conference.

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to forums.mozillazine.org:80. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

How do I correct this?

Moved from Thunderbird Support to MozillaZine Site Discussion

My experience has been that I can't log into the MozillaZine web site using https:, but have no problem using http (insecure). I don't get a SSL error if I use https, it just keeps silently logging me out. Other people have reported the same thing.

https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/ssl_er ... _too_long/ explains several possible ways to get rid of that error. But that assumes the web site is not to blame. It is.

Unfortunately our admin has been unreachable for over 2 years after claiming he was going to shut the web site down and then suddenly disappearing. We have free hosting at OSL Labs and they are working on updating the forum software to a later version of phpBB (to solves a different problem). They have also said they'd come up with a long term plan to keep us alive. But change/progress will be slow. In the interim I suggest you make a insecure connection.
