SOLVED-fails/succeeds - different in about:restartrequired

Post by BruceAWittmeier »

If I open this link direct from email with the FF not running -- it fails.
If I open this link with FF running no tabs in use -- it fails.
If I execute "about:restartrequired" with no tabs in use it fails.
If I execute "about:restartrequired" and this link with a failed attempt (still in the tab) -- it works.
If I execute "about:restartrequired", then close the browser with the Windows X top right corner and retry it succeeds.
If I execute 2 consecutive "about:restartrequired" in a row it succeeds.
Any ideas or explanations?

Edit:
Create a desktop link
Click the link -- it will likely fail
Execute "about:restartrequired" and after restart - close the browser with the Windows X top right corner.
Click the link to start the browser and it will likely succeed.

Edit 2:
Double click a desktop link to above with the browser not running...it may succeed.
Drag the same link to the next Tab location (not an open tab -- just the area) it will likely fail.

That's some link.
"awstrack.me" ;-).
If that is "aws" (aka Amazon), do you think they're tracking you (me)?

Anyhow, aside from about:restartrequired... If I...

firefox.exe http://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/...
or
seamonkey.exe http://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/...

it fails. Not sure why. Doesn't appear that anything has actually loaded?
Suppose you could sniff & see what might or might not be happening?
Or maybe you can do it in the browser itself, but if so, I'm unsure how to do that (to see what's going on at startup)?

Once you get to that form (& they want you to pay a sawbuck for the honor - that's crazy!), in the signature line, it says "blanks".
I hope those are real bullets you have in your gun, when "aws" comes knocking on your door.

In SeaMonkey (didn't check in FF), if you set http://458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/... as your "homepage" (& have that load on browser startup), then it does load each time. (I can't think of a better home page to have, heh ;-).)

A different type of "redirector", like google, does work (but then google wouldn't track.me).
firefox.exe https://www.google.com/url?q=https://wi ... S_1jdDGJxI
Fire 750, bring back 250.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.19) Gecko/20110420 SeaMonkey/2.0.14 Pinball CopyURL+ FetchTextURL FlashGot NoScript

Solved-Link fails/succeeds-differently with about:restartreq

Post by BruceAWittmeier »

Thanks for looking into this. I burnt myself out on trying to find a pattern to when it fails/succeeds.
It comes from a reliable source -- VCDL Virginia organization been around about 15 years or so and I know the business.
I won't spend any more time on it but it seems to most prevelent with Firefox.
Never seen a link quite like that...Just very puzzling.

Solved.
Turns out I have a prevent redirect adder and it was preventing the redirect from Amazon (awstrack).
Still unable to explain why the first execution succeeds and subsequent fail -- every time with the adder.
