can’t open folders on desktop

Post by bgreenage »

I have two folders on the desktop that won’t open. Also recycle bin won’t open. File explorer and this pc also won’t open. However they all seem to be pinned to the task bar. They will not open from the task bar either. Any idea what may be causing this? I have restarted the machine. Windows 10 Home 20H2. OS build 19042.1110. Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0. Folder right click properties General tab Type: file folder. Location: C:\Users\xxxxxx\Desktop. Size:46.3 MB (48,613,522 bytes). Size on disc:46.6 MB (48,889,856 bytes). Contains: 109 Files, 0 Folders . Created: Tuesday, ‎July ‎13, ‎2021, ‏‎5:21:06 AM. Attributes Read only Sharing tab. Network path not shared. The files are all small.jpg. When I go to post I can see the image and can post it. Not sure why the file explorer has the same behavior. It won’t open but is pinned to the task bar.

Hi,
I just searched the WIN 10 Support site & found a few suggestions that may help you return to normal viewing.

Some are a tad old but they may help...

Try this oldie one...

Hope it helps.

ps. I usually try going to the "Horses Mouth" 1st for any weird probs.

So the link suggests that a MS update caused the problem and the easiest fix was to adjust the size of desktop icons text etc. . So at 125% all functioning returns to normal including file explorer works again. They also offer d/l of various programs saying it's a registry error and fixing the registry error will fix the problem. At any rate the problem has been fixed for now. I have all functionally. But I'm going to loook at some of those programs so see if they can return to normal as working at 125% Has some issues of its own. Thank you for the answers. And thank you for getting my PC back to working. Your help is very much appreciate.

I'm still unable to open desktop folders, file explorer and recycle bin at 100% display. The article that advised it was a MS update was from 2015, which I didn't realize last time. So, any ideas on why at 125% everything works as it should but not really usable as everything is size distorted. But at 100% they don't work. Any ideas to try ?
