Postfix Caution (Linux)

Post by Grumpus »

If using Postfix it should be noted even when deploying Postfix as a local postman (your computer only) to send warnings for packages like RKHunter if installing Postfix with some Linux distributions it may pickup your Internet Service Provider as "Local" instead of your actual computer. This may be partly due to the maintainer for your distribution or some other reason out of your control under the auspice of your provider.
Recent new install caused Postfix to grab my provider's address and set up the local based on their system.
Even after the proper edit's were done local email did not work unless additional changes were made through out Postfix configuration.
Changes needed were reviewed from other systems and found the dpkg-reconfigure Postfix command did not accomplish the edits required.
It was necessary to manually edit several files including the alias file and then run the "systemctl reload postfix" command.
Installation was done through the OS repository.
Just a guess, some of this may be laid at UCF.
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you
