Yesterday I updated to v111.

Today I'm suddenly being deluged with popups from various sites asking to allow notifications.

Like this one on Google Images.

After reading an old post I looked in about:config. Both settings are disabled:

dom.push.enabled false
dom.webnotifications.enabled false

I haven't touched settings, but I unchecked/checked the box anyway. It didn't help. ](*,)

I think this specific dialog is about the "Switch to this Tab" permission that you can find in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions" when you have opened this website in a tab.

That would only affect the website where the permissions were changed. This is suddenly happening all over the web.
The permissions all default anyway.

Perhaps not coincidentally, I'm also having trouble accessing a particular website today. Ironically it's this one. :-k

When I use the "view topic" link that was sent in the email, the page won't load. https://forums.mozillazine.org:80/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3108565&p=14952076&e=14952076
But I can still get in thru https://forums.mozillazine.org.

Well, it's not just from the email link.

After submitting my reply, the page refreshed and I again got the SSL error page. viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3108565&p=14952089#p14952089

This forum only works properly via HTTP and not via secure HTTPS, so make sure to leave out the 's'.
You may have to add a HTTPS-Only Mode block exception for http://forums.mozillazine.org if you have enabled this feature.

there is one thing that is new with firefox 111, "native notifications" where the notifications are sent through "windows." so, to block them, you need to disable notifications in "windows," in windows "settings"/"system"/"notifications and actions", i suppose.

here is a related article from ghacks.net:

note that there is some information in the comments sections of the articles where people comment on measures that they took to try to disable notifications in firefox.

The new notifications feature is for Windoze and I'm on Mac. \:D/

I already posted a screenshot of the relevant setting on my system.

I don't think I've received a single notification popup in the past 2 days, maybe it was a brief (but annoying) glitch. Fingers crossed 0X
