Firefox115.4 esr in Ventura OpenCore (Mac) some sites very slow loading (SOLVED)

Post by kukla »

Unlike my Fx in supported High Sierra, 10.13.6, my Fx in Ventura via OCLP https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Leg ... -DROP.html, which usually runs quite well, Fx in unsupported Ventura experiences glitches, including some sites taking minutes to fully load.

I've been told that some of the anomalies I've been experiencing are the result of having installed the Ventura on a separate drive partition, instead of fully erasing the internal and then installing--which is something I may eventually end up doing.

In any case, and realize that this is coming out of left field - not the usual request - I wonder if anyone might have any suggestions for modifying the Fx in Ventura that might possibly eliminate this problem where some sites take minutes to fully load. Note, don't see any pattern to the sites which load so slowly, and see no difference restarting with all addons disabled. E.g. this one loads right away, sites such as nytimes, which have numerous elements, load right away, while forums at Macrumors and some others take a full minute or more.

As a BTW, Brave, my secondary browser, also installed in OpenCore Ventura shows none of these problems.

Am using the Ventura OCLP in order to prepare for the eventual demise of Fx for anyone running 10.14 and below

Setting aside for the moment that Fx is running in Ventura OpenCore, and including that this behavior persists even when Fx is started with all add-ons disabled - so clearly the culprit is not one of the many ads-ons I'm normally using - what else besides some misbehaving add-on might be responsble for the slow loading of some, but not all, sites?

What to look at? What to check when this occcurs?

Other then https://www.macrumors.com/ other slow URLs?

I think FF has about:perfomance ?
Browser console or similar might have clues?

Maybe they might point something out?

Thanks. Not seeing much useful information in about:performance - shows impact of addons, and Browser Console is mostly inscrutable. Don't know how to use, no surprise. There are some others, but none come to mind at the moment -will provide additional slow loading URls.

Several others very slow to load : tracfone.com, forecast.weather.gov/

Perhaps someone can look at the 2 following brief excerpts from browser console while macrumors was loading in order to see if there are any clues re. the very slow loading at that site (and possibly something to modify that might help). There was far more in multiprocess, but far too much to post. Note, I am using the same profile that works in High Sierra supported without this slow loading issue.

No clue what it means, but SeaMonkey does not "know" HTTP/3 (that I know of), so if macrumors is spending 123 + 264 + ... ms on something... ?

That said, I'm not noticing any issues on macrumors.

Are you using an adblocker (uBlock Origin)?
If not, maybe you should?

How about your useragent? Do you advertise "SeaMonkey" (or only FF)?
If only FF, perhaps you're being served a different page (causing what you're seeing)?

"Cache" was mentioned (in your post above), & not that I know what it means (in this context), but maybe see if clearing your Cache makes any difference?

Or test in a new clean Profile & see if macrumors runs better there?

--Not sure why you're bringing this up in this regard, but I have uBO and have used it for many years.

--User Agent is solely Firefox, no SeaMonkey (do you see anything SeaMonkey in the Browser Console above?
If only FF, perhaps you're being served a different page (causing what you're seeing)?
Can you perhaps elaborate on that?

--Have Clear Cache addon, which makes no difference to this issue.

--Dreading this, but will try to remove all traces of FF and install a new, clean profile.

FIXED, CURED. The problem was related to using the FF privacy/security DNS setting OFF Use your default DNS resolver, which was defaulting to cloudflare. Instead, brought over the dnscrypt-proxy (set to use only the Quad 9 resolvers) to the Ventura, which I've been using for years in the High Sierra https://github.com/DNSCrypt/dnscrypt-proxy, and now macrumors, or any of the other slow loading sites, load right away and fast. No idea why the cloudflare dns lookups were causing this issue -- even tried the FF native DoH, which still didn't help. Only dnscrypt-proxy.

Heh. Got me there! All along I thought I was dealing with a SeaMonkey topic ;-).)
