Thunderbird sometimes saving sent in local folder(Linux)

Post by BlackTC »

Hi everybody!

I use Thunderbird, now version 102.10.0 (64bit) under ubuntu 22.04.2, but this problem was there also with previous version, let's say from 9x more or less.

I have some account configured on it, all with imaps protocol and using port 993.

since we change our email server software to dovecot, we are experiencing this strange problem: sometimes sent email aren't copied on Sent folder on imap account but on Sent folder on Local Folders ( usually unused ). usually is about once over 20 send messages.
it happens only on main account configured, but it manage a lot more emails of others one.

we already checked dovecot logs, since it seems related to server software change, but we found nothing at all there.

tried to debug imap protocol on thunderbird, but it seems there is nothing strange, no error or whatsoever.

do you have any suggestion on where to look at?
when exactly thunderbird decide to save a sent email in a local folder without giving any error box or warning message?

many thanks for any suggestion!

Does the Drafts folder work correctly?

Is there an error message in the error console or a prompt dialog like the following error messages?
Couldn't open the Sent Mail folder. Please verify that your account settings are correct.
The message was sent successfully, but could not be copied to your Sent folder.
Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to Local Folders/Sent.
Did you try creating a IMAP log file?

Session logging

More info on session logging search tanstaafl's posts for MOZ_LOG

P.S.

I couldn't find a useful comment in the source.

mail.identity.default.fcc_folder pref -> mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Sent
mail.identity.id1.fcc_folder pref -> imap://example%40gmail.com@imap.gmail.com/[Gmail]/Sent Mail

yes, Drafts folder works normally.

there were no prompt dialog with error message ( quite sure of that ) or any similar log in error console ( keep searching with error console open ).

tried to do some imap log, apparently i do not find anything interesting: it's a lot of stuff, since it's an used account the one that i'm debugging.

I tried to replicate the problem with another account, a test one, used only to send test email, but with this one hasn't happened yet.

thanks for your reply!

Remember to set the show content messages checkbox in the error console.

Error console allows you to show or hide messages from the content process by setting or clearing the checkbox labeled show content messages.
