Microsoft Account stops responding on Thunderbird

Post by kevinvinv »

After about 3 days, I am getting a notice from Thunderbird saying it cant get into my microsoft account for email. I believe it is using Oauth2. Any ideas... or an idea how I can re-authenticate the account? This is the second time this has happened, last time I re-set up the entire account... cant keep doing that! :)

Without posting your full email address, what settings do you have under menu path Tools->Account Settings Server Settings:
Server name:
Port # :
User name : (Is it your full name or just the bit before the @ symbol)
Connection Security:
Authentication Method:

Thanks for the response!

Server Name outlook.office365.com
port # 993
SSL/TLS
OAuth2

Note that this is a custom domain that I have with microsoft. In Outlook, I have this set up as an Exchange connection. (but I hate Outlook)... should / could I do that here in Thunderbird?

Those values are correct for an Outlook IMAP type account. Please confirm that the account is set up as IMAP -
In Thunderbird the menu path is Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

Try using menu path Tools->Settings->Privacy & Security->Saved Passwords->click on the entry for that account and then click on the "Remove" button. Close and restart Thunderbird to clear any cached data. See if things connect properly when the server provides a new Oauth token.
