Bookmark Search in SeaMonkey?

Post by rsbrux »

Does SeaMonkey handle Bookmark Search the same way Firefox does?
I am looking for an alternative to Firefox that shows the path of the found bookmarks in the Bookmarks hierarchy.
There have been many requests to implement this in Firefox, but they seem not to get any traction.

I am unclear about your question. Are you talking about searching for and finding a bookmark and then having its "Location" also indicated (such as " h t t p s://forums.mozillazine.org/ ")? If so there is a "Location" column available in both Firefox and SeaMonkey---at least in the Windows versions. If that is not what you are talking about please clarify your query.

I think this is about showing the path of the entry inside the bookmarks, say "Bookmarks Toolbar → Random sub-folder → Bookmark Entry".

If so, I think this is bug 56418:

I too would like the bookmark search function to work differently than it does, much like the bugzilla thread linked by njsg discusses. But given that history plus the general manpower shortage, it doesn't look very likely to happen any time soon.

That bug does mention a pair of extensions I would have liked to try, However, they seem to have vanished when Firefox switched away from legacy extensions to using only webextensions. There are mozillazine threads and even wayback saves of the AMO pages describing them:

Show Parent Folder
https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=659689
http://web.archive.org/web/201611240234 ... nt-folder/

Go Parent Folder
https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=659690
http://web.archive.org/web/201611232254 ... nt-folder/

Alas, there is the same problem with both of these... while the wayback saves seemingly offer the .xpi files for downloading, the resulting files are not valid zips and cannot be unpacked or installed. I also tried looking in various other collections of addons but could not find these anywhere else. Does anyone know where to get working copies of these?

OldBrowserInUse,

I do not know but might the "Classic Add-ons Archive at " https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive " help? As I understand how the archive works you have to install the entire archive and then look for and install the individual extension.

OldBrowserInUse,
the behavour of Show Parent Folder / Go Parent Folder can easily be implemented by updating 3 files in omni.ja.
I'm using it since a few years now.

Which 3 files? And where can I find the suggested updated versions?
