Send and File - File a message when sending

Post by kevinvinv »

Does anyone have a way to file an email upon sending to a folder of the users choice?

I'd like to be able to pick a folder at the time of send- and have a copy of the email filed there.

I've seen some add-ons that maybe do it but nothing that works on 115 or newer... have you?

THanks!

You can use the "After Sending" option. These filters only apply to an email being sent.

Thanks for this tip. I wonder if I can have the tool pop up a selection box to PICK the folder to file it to at the time of sending. Do you know? I'll begin to do some research. THANK YOU

Don't think that functionality is available but you can select a range of criteria when defining the filter (and "any of" or "all of" settings). So you could have a filter based on the address to which the message is going (and you could set as many address into the filter as you wish with an "any of" setting), based on the subject or based on any other field that is appropriate. There is a lot of flexibility in setting up the criteria.

I think this addon might be what you're looking for:
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/th ... nt/?src=ss

I've used that in previous versions of Thunderbird, it's been fantastic and so essential I would delay upgrading TB until this addon was available.

Another one here might also help quickly filing messages:

Have you had success with either of these on the lastest TB? I have not... but I am willing to try again if someone has!

Did you try the newest version? Copy Sent to Current 3.35 was released on 10/10/2024.

Copy Sent to Current - Version History

I tried the addon with Thunderbird 128.4.2. I sent a message using a Gmail IMAP account when the currently active folder was the Example folder in Local Folders. The addon copied the message into the Sent folder in the Gmail IMAP account and the Example folder in Local Folders.
Günter Gersdorf wrote:Another special feature of Gmail is that sent emails are given the label 'Sent' and are therefore displayed by TB in the 'Sent' folder. It is not possible to send an email without this happening.

Both Günter Gersdorf and opto are active users on the addon developers site so they won't likely abandon their addons.

GREAT! I will try it again then - I am only nervous about the latest version bc of the reported IMAP bug so maybe I'll have to either wait one more version or go back a version. Thank you very much! I am hoping I can get this to work and finally dump outlook for good.
